"The Milky Way"

The Milky Way course consists of:

• A four-hour creative lactation education class. It's a wonderful way to prepare to feed your nursling, or learn more about your nursing newborn. In the class, we talk about your reasons and goals for breastfeeding. We will also discuss potential concerns that you and your partner may have around breastfeeding. I encourage the nursing mother and the partner to attend this class, if possible. This class takes place every 1st and 3rd Saturday at 1PM.
• A post-partum visit. I will visit you at a location of your choice (hospital / home) and be on call for you for the first 21 days for phone or email consultations any time of the day.
• A special gift of tea and a breastfeeding kit.

Areas we will cover

• benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby
• human milk vs. formula
• anatomy and physiology of the breast
• what to expect with the first hours, days and weeks of nursing
• the newborn crawl
• proper positioning/various positions
• latch-on
• how to recognize if baby is getting enough milk
• basic problems and solutions
• diet, fluids and nutrition for the nursing mother
• breastfeeding family - home at last
• area support systems
• going back to work
